Had orientation today. It went pretty well... couple things I noticed though...
1. Not a black, or latin student. About 60% asian, 40% white.
2. Almost half were women (I expected a sausage fest honestly).
The facility is a brand new building... and it is just.... jaw dropping. The entire building is wireless and paper free. Most teachers want soft copies of homework.
There are these "team rooms" that are glass walled rooms with a white board, 45 inch LCD mounted on the wall, and power cables/vga plug to put laptop info onto the screen.
All the rooms have touch screens next to the door so if you want to reserve a study area or room, you can register for it online or on site for up to 3 hours. The LCD then flashes "RESERVED" for that time. Small cafeteria right in the building lobby, and an office center with copy machine, fax, print station too.
The rooms are in two types, U shaped (30 seats), and lines like normal college desks... except that the desks themselves are all on wheels and movable to work in groups instead of bolted on the ground. Power cables for every student (not most, EVERY) under every table (or where tables should be in rooms with rollable tables).
Each room has 2 projectors putting up the image from the computer on both sides of the room so people can see. For the person doing the presentation there are LCD's on the back of the room that show the output as well.
Oh... and did I mention several class rooms have leather seats? ;D
Though most have recyclable plastic chairs, but very comfortable nonetheless.
An outdoor balcony study area. Parking lot right next to the building. TV's running news in the lobby. Digital bulletin boards to post events. All faculty and professors offices in the building (all those pertinent at least). San Jose skyline view from the top floor...
