Thread for WoW Minis... we'll see how far this goes. There are people to play with, some local scenes, and imo, this game is surprisingly fun without it being difficult to learn. Having played Hero System and some sort of mini game, plus WoW, it's impossible not to grasp this shit. The best thing about this game is how playable many of the minis are. I can count on one hand the minis that are absolute shit with no debate (Chen Stormstout, Celenias Firemane, Grumpherys), and the rest are between debatably viable and hella good.
The question, then, is money. Collectible games are notorious cash sinks, but to encourage play, I have found some really good places to get started for cheap (UDE ought to pay me commission for this), and have been able to get myself off the ground for a decent price.
First thing I'd buy is a starter. Get the basic, non-deluxe starter. If you hunt around on Amazon, you should find one for $10-$15. Anymore than fifteen dollars, move on to better deals. I recommend the basic starter because of the exclusive minis that come with it... and they're impressive for starter material. It comes with a map, dice, and bases for your minis.
The Deluxe starter is optional. It's good when you want the nice map board and two boosters worth of characters. Therefore, the characters you get are random, unlike the basic starter, and you can have two full teams to play with rather than two incomplete teams like the basic starter. You do have an increased chance to get Epic rarity characters, so that's kind of cool. These run from $25-$35 if you get them from the right places.
After choosing your starter (you can get both the Deluxe and the basic one for best results), get some boosters from Amazon again. Don't get them at target... in fact, don't get boosters from any bricks and mortar store. Usual retail for boosters run $12-$15. Amazon is $8.29, with around a 5 day wait.
Boosters mean being able to open packs, which is fun, but there will come a point where you buy singles. In the long run, singles are cheaper, but getting packs is a nice random way to let you explore different factions. Plus, the chances of good pulls can mitigate the overall cost of entire boosters and get you commons for cheaper than singles.
After a few boosters, you'll still be missing some stuff. With the basic starter and around 5-7 boosters, you should be able to build some semblance of a solid team, unless your boosters are divided up between all three factions. This is a good time to just build whatever seems interesting and fun.
When it comes to singles, you may not get them all from the same place. Here are some links:

The problem with singles is that there is no consistent market price. You'll have to look around to see what the best deal is. It's more true for the rare singles than the commons, which you should only pay around $2.00 at most for (if they're good). I got a lot of minis from Gamerocket since some rares were either between fairly priced to underpriced (Irana for THREE DOLLARS). The first link, Strike Zone, has singles in the form of cards, and they're pretty well priced as well. Coolstuffinc, as usual, is such a solid online store and reliable and their delivery time is amongst the best in the country.
Protip: Make sure when you buy single miniatures that they come with their Action Bar Cards (or ABC's). If you don't know what ABC's come with what miniature, there's a poster that has that info in the Starter kits, basic and deluxe alike.
If you wanna know what's out there, here's a good link to what's in the set: wowminis.tcgplayer.com/games/303/wow_minis.asp?SetName=Core%20Set
Generally, don't buy Epics, unless you have a ballbreakingly good idea for a team. They're stupidly expensive, and you do not need them to build a good team.
