Ok, here's the rundown of what will happen at Darkmoon Faire (DMF) for WoW minis, February 27 - March 1. It's located in Burlingame, and the location (I haven't googled it yet) seems to be right off Bayshore Hwy, so it looks like it's gonna be hella easy to get to!
Friday the 27th - Qualifying tournament for Worlds, 4PM, various drafts (not going this day)
Saturday the 28th - Two qualifying tournament for Worlds, one at 10am, one at 4pm, various drafs throughout the day
Sun - Worlds (probably not attending unless I get an itch to play at a qualifier)
The great thing about the drafts/sealed events is that they'll be run all day. They cost 25 bucks to enter and are only two rounds of play. If you go 2-0 in your games, you win another booster. If you go 1-1, you roll a dice and win a mini. You keep the product you draft or receive in sealed, naturally.
In a booster draft, each player gets two boosters with all the figures removed from the packs. All the cards are removed and then they're drafted like they are in Magic. You just need to make a two person team, no faction restriction, and you can pack any amount of action bar cards per character (restricted only by class/spec).
A sealed draft gives you two boosters to make a 3 person team with. No faction restriction here either. You use the two boosters to make a team with no drafting, so what you get is what you get, but you don't need to think nearly as hard.
Lastly, a starter sealed event (35 dollars) is more expensive, more interesting. Each person gets a starter to begin with and makes a two person team with no faction restriction the first round. The second round, each player gets a booster and makes a 3 person team with no faction restriction. Prizes are the same.
The booster draft and sealed events begin as soon as at least 4 people sign up for one, meaning there's no set schedule and potentially tons of drafts happening all day. The starter event begins at the start of an hour, with two 45 minute rounds.
At noon on Saturday, there is also a Loot Card tournament that is played in Sealed format. Top prize is a Spectral Tiger Loot card (which is worth hundreds), with second prize being the Kiting card and third prize being Owned!.
So there you have it. Some sealed events that add up to buying two boosters plus a mini, or three boosters for cheap. With ambition, the main event on Sunday, if you qualify, is a chance to compete for a computer, a PS3, and hella boosters. There's also a Best Buy Tournament Friday at 1PM for a $250 Best Buy gift card. I'd recommend the sealed tournaments because people are all playing on a level playing field and it's an economical way to get more pieces.
Lemme know if you want to tag along. I'm going for sure on Saturday. If you're interested in going but are strapped for cash, I'll be happy to cover the expenses for sealed events, provided I get to keep epic pieces I don't have (Arugal/Bolvar), or rares I need(Nathressa, Bloodscale Wavecaller, Omedus). Anything aside from these five are yours to keep, cards and all. In other words: you pull Thrall, it's yours.
