So my laptop died yesterday due to a BIOS corruption of some sort. POST beep code is 1 long 2 short beeps for anyone curious enough to google it. Did some research and it looks like it's a somewhat common problem with the Lenovo T60/61 series. Apparently nvidea gave everyone the finger and the GPU chips (probably not all but a significant number of them) that they used back in 2007 have a heating issue that causes the chip to overheat and die. Unfortunately since the chip is soldered onto the motherboard that means you pretty much have to replace the whole thing.
There's a quick test I need to do to make sure that it's not my memory, but given how many people I've read about on the forums with similar problems to mine the outlook does not look so good. Funny but creepy fact is that everyone started having the problem around the same time. Fortunately I am still under warranty (yay extended warranty) so hopefully this won't cost me anything to fix besides my time.

Well, at least that means Nvidia's chips have consistent performance, given that they have such similar lifespans!

That just sucks. This is so ridiculously ominious. Chip's L4D2 problem with crashing turned into an occassional blue screen of death problem. I had a random blue screen the other day out of nowhere trying to load starcraft (ati2dv error or something like that).

Just got my laptop back today and it seems to be working fine. Yay good customer service.
