Agreed. Seems like the trend is that L1 XFC is no good unless you're guaranteeing the point and assist kill. At WNF 4.2 it seemed like people just kept losing when they burned XFC early or tried to save their 1st character.
You ever check out the San Diego Marvel scene btw?

I haven't checked on the San Diego Marvel scene. From what I know it's just hte box arena, but apparently they have some really good MVC3 players. They normally run stuff on Tuesdays which usually isn't a good day for me to go, unfortunately.
Oh, and there's a new MVC3 video of Tokido and Mago on SRK. 2 things to note: 1) Japan internet makes MVC3 look playable online. 2) Listening to what they're saying while and after playing was interesting. During the game it was mostly useless commentary on stuff in game. The last part of the video, when they're jsut talking, is actually almost completely devoid of MVC3 stuff. They talked something about Tokido's recent trip to America and Justin (pretty sure Wong).
Most of the post game talking was about SF4AE and I think some tournament coming up? They were talking about specific players not being able to or were still thinking about entering (I assume they meant registering) for some tournament. Then they talked about some random stuff about Sagat and I think it was more about his viability in AE. At the end they were talking about player(s) motivation, I couldn't tell who they were implying was losing motivation to play fighters, I think KSK?

That's too bad. Viscant and Genghis were also strong Marvel players (at least up to around 2005 if I remember correctly), and are active again in this game.
I also saw that video with Tokido and Mago. From the videos I see out of Japan in general, regardless of game, they seem to have a better time playing online. Not surprised if KSK is losing some motivation to play. Poor guy is like, the punchline of jokes at times.
Btw, trying to learn Wesker, especially after watching a lot of SoCal videos and getting some ideas from Viscant. Not sure I'll actually end up playing him, but there's something about the character that finally makes sense to me. Watch me end up with some stupid mix of Wolverine, Wesker, Mags, Dante, and Sentinel. I am such a scrub.

I know how you feel about Wesker "starting to make sense." At first I couldn't understand how he really worked or moved around so well, but the more I play him, the more his movement and combos make sense.
I've been playing a bunch of Magneto/Wesker/Akuma. But my Akuma is awful because I'm way too used to having tons of air mobility with just about every other character I play and I still have trouble moving around the screen and actually what throws me off more is his moveset. I keep thinking forward and roundhouse in standard Street Fighter controls...so I randomly drop combos and get assists killed.
The team feels very...awkward. I can see why Yipes would play it, but honestly if you can't move around really well with Magneto, it really just doesn't work well. The lack of beam assists, or even full screen assists really sucks when you need to get in with Magneto. Once you get in, then you're good because Akuma is a great get off me/stop mashing assist, but it can be pretty annoying to get in against some zoning characters. Though it is really nice having 2 assists that Wesker can use to relaunch after otg gunshot.
Not really sure if I should stick with Magneto...hes good and stuff, but the more I play him the easier it feels to punish him mid blockstring (assuming you get the first block off the triangle mix ups). Similarly I'm not sure if I should really try to learn Akuma, or if I should look for another assist/anchor other than Akuma (he is good, but it's annoying hitting strong for mk and cr.fierce for sweep). Doom kind of works instead of Akuma...but his assists really don't mesh well with Wesker, beam assist is fine for Magneto though.
I kind of want to play Dante again, but his bold cancel combos are really annoying to get used to, and his damage feels so....average without bold cancel combos. But characters I've been playing are...Magneto, Wesker, Akuma, Ammy, Trish, Doom. Sentinel assist would be awesome, but I really don't like playing Sentinel as a point character. Wolverine...I surprisingly don't care to play. Storm is pretty damn awful, her damage is just so bad without the DHC glitch or XFC, but everyone does good damage with XFC. Her mixups aren't even that good, her triangle jump might as well not exist for overheading.
Not really sure if I want to really try learning other characters. Taskmaster seems really good. Morrigan might be funny so you can have hella meter. Spencer/Deadpool/X-23 are all pretty solid...but the more I think about characters to pick up, the more I realize that I really have no clue how to really build a team in this game.

Long time since I have posted.
Self-sufficient combo that I've tried to get good at doing consistently in-game with Magneto with Wesker-B (works from up to a little more than half-screen)
c.lmhs, j.h, ad, j.m, j.h, Flight, j.l, j.h, ad, j.m, j.h, ad, j.m, j.m, j.h, ad, j.mmhs, land, call Wesker-B, L Hyper Grav, [sjb, addf, j.h, h, L Hyper Grav] x2, Magnetic Tempest, DHC Glitch Wesker Rhino Charge, Low Gun, c.lm, h, qcf+m, m, h, s, j.mmhs
Does around 950k and the subsequent Wesker portion post-DHC refunds almost a full meter. I usually keep it to two Hyper Grav loops so I don't give myself too many chances to F up, but bringing it up to 3 loops gives enough meter to tack on a super at the end of the air combo for Wesker, which easily brings the combo to 1.1 million, where only Thor can survive this.
I should try to see how many Hyper Grav loops can be done and see if enough meter can be built to DHC off Phantom Dance just to kill Thor... more for curiosity than anything else.
I also suppose this doesn't matter since Ultimate is coming out in November, but I'll leave this for posterity. I think Hyper Grav is getting taken out as well, which makes me sad because I was finally getting the hang of it. But hey, Magneto can kill you off a crouching light. Hella fair.
Incidentally, this also DHC's well into Sentinel for the glitch, although the subsequent combo won't pay for an extra meter for an extra super at the end, unless Magneto does more Hyper Grav loops. However, with enough meter, Sentinel only needs to launch off the DHC, do a basic combo, land/rocket punch, and super twice to kill anyone in the game. Yay smrt.
I kinda wanna try a Morrigan combo DHC off of this for fun, but the bitch does so little damage. Or I'll just play some Zero and be a douche like Marn.
