Replacement thread for Pokemon stuff. To re-start the discussion, I need tanks. Lots of tanks. Something that can take a hit or ten. Blissey, Bastiodon, Dusknoir, Spiritomb come to mind. I've been hearing some complaints about Rhyperior, unfortunately, which has shaken my confidence in him a little, but we'll see what happens. Everyone should have a DS with Pokemon. That should be a new rule. We need to have double battles, mix poffins, and even Super Contests .

I find that lately I've been too obsessed with breeding good IVs to actually level my pokemon. Damn this knowledge telling me how important IVs are. I'm still stuck on breeding eevees for the various evolutions that I want. I find that I really wanna build a Vaporeon and not too far behind it is a Leafeon and for some dumb reason an Umbreon. It seems I have the opposite problem that Josh has, I'm building too many tanks. But I agree that everyone should get Pokemon so we can go do all the fun multiplayer stuff. If nothing else doubles battle tower is really fun. On a side note, still working on purifying all those damn pokemon in Colosseum so I can try and get that stupid Ho-oh. Damn this is taking forever. EDIT: Oh yeah, I did some more research and I found that you can get a Seismic Toss Blissey from FireRed/LeafGreen. Both games have a 1 time use move tutor that teaches seismic toss. So you just need to breed the appropiate chansey on one of those games, tutor it, then transfer it. Still easier to do in Emerald imo, but at least those of us without Emerald are able to do it.

I want to break 100 on linked battles in the tower one day. It'll take forever, but I wanna do it. I finished redoing my Garchomp and Dragonite. Unfortunately, the speed on my Garchomp turns out to be the exact same at level 50, though its attack is much higher. My Dragonite, however, is outright better than before. I'm working on a Seismic Toss-less Blissey, just to have something to take a hit or two for me. Skarmory should be up next as well. And after that... hmm.. a Beedrill!

Posted by DialgaMaster on Bonkenhi (don't ask why I was there.. I became very curious as to how much of a retard cesspool that place was, and I found this) Just in case you didn't know, there are 6 types in this game that have a typing advantage over every other type in the game.
Said types are: Grass or Electric Ice Flying Ground Fighting Dark or Ghost
The or statements are interchangeable.
Look at the current 17 types.
Fire Water Normal Grass Electric Fighting Flying Bug Ground Rock Ghost Poison Psychic Ice Dragon Dark Steel
Now, look at the 6 types I've listed.
Fighting has an advantage over... -Normal -Rock -Ice -Dark -Steel
Which leaves... Fire Water Grass Electric Fighting Flying Bug Ground Ghost Poison Psychic Dragon
Ground has an advantage over... -Fire -Electric -Poison (Also Dark, Rock, and Steel, but they're already covered)
Which leaves... Water Grass Fighting Flying Bug Ground Ghost Psychic Dragon
Ice has an advantage over... -Grass -Flying -Ground -Dragon
Which leaves... Water Fighting Bug Ghost Psychic
Flying has an advantage over... -Bug -Fighting
Which leaves... Water Ghost Psychic
Dark AND Ghost have the same advantages. Those are... -Ghost -Psychic
Which leaves only Water, where you have the option of choosing between Grass and Electric. Best choice is Grass, because nothing is immune to grass like Ground is to Electric.
If you do this you will do a perfect(not indestructible) teamSo considering this tardfag's advice, here's my "perfect" team: Hitmontop (Fighting) Quagsire (Ground) Abomasnow (Covers Ice AND Grass which is obviously superior to Electric) Noctowl (Flying) Sableye (Ghost AND Dark!!!) Now I've covered all the bases he mentioned in 5 pokemon. This team is shaping up to be buttfucking perfect! I think I'll just use a Normal, since that's balanced... I'll pick... Spinda (Normal FTW!)

After spending several hours in the Cerulean Cave (Fire Red) I finally caught myself a Bold Ditto. Woo hoo! Too bad its IVs were complete garbage. Back to breeding Eevees I go, hopefully I'll get lucky and I'll only have to hatch a few dozen eggs before getting one with good IVs.

Hmm, just resurrecting this thread for the fun of it since I'm playing a little Pokemon again atm. Really, obsessing over IV's have killed a little bit of the fun of the game, so I've loosened up the expectations of it and am just focusing more on the builds. I went here: www.smogon.com/dp/pokemon/ the other day and looked up a few builds for Pokes that I'm using, and was surprised that my builds were pretty dead on, some being a dead ringer in the guides. Even though I've taken inspiration from online sources, I had never encountered this particular section of smogon.com before, since I usually look up the forums only. So that was pretty encouraging and got me to want to at least try certain builds again. The only thing is that I find a certain risk of looking this stuff up while I'm on break at Legend and having kids ask me stuff. Oi. They told me Heracross sucks and Shedinja and Golbat were really good. Then they asked me what EV's were. I am planning on having a day where I allow people to bring their DS's, just so I can kill them with a Choice Banded Beedrill.

Umm, so yeah, I am playing this game again, and finally bred some tanks. Made some stupid mistakes playing at first, but then got back into the groove of things. I have to say, though, I am really starting to get fascinated by this game in how it continues to evolve (no pun intended).
The meta is really interesting, and borderline broken, which is kind of how I like my metas. I am fascinated by brokenness on a creative level, and Garchomp has turned into a monster since I last played. Not that he wasn't already feared, but there was a moment where people figured out how to beat him in a general sense.
Then came a set which Garchomp could abuse a near 30% evasion rate while murdering your team, which is just bullshit considering how badly you need that fucker to die once he goes on a rampage. Now comes a set that can survive ICE BEAM. Ice attacks were the go-to answer for dealing with this guy, and now the special attackers can't guarantee its destruction because they have to take time to figure out how Garchomp is built (which requires the sacrifice of a portion of your team). Granted, Weavile and Mamoswine can take care of Garchomp still, but there are never any guarantees. When Garchomp comes out, it's kind of like someone telling you, "Excuse me, you've been knocked down, and you now need to block an ambiguous Ken crossup from John Choi... wanna give it a try? If you fail, all you eat is short short super.. it's not THAT bad!"
Meanwhile, Electivire is dropping in usage, because people can't seem to use him right... and this thing was an incredibly overhyped beatstick. Rhyperior has gone the same way.
On the rise? Roserade. Roserade hits so hard, people just forget about arguing with the numbers. Period. Toxic Spikes are nice as well. Porygon Z is getting hype for the same reason. He just kicks you in the nuts so hard. Mamoswine is also gonna be huge because it has a priority move in Ice Shard, plus a FAT attack stat. It's like a Weavile that can.. you know.. survive. Abomasnow is seeing use just because he sets up Hail and can throw hard moves as long as you keep him away from fire. Vaporeon's ability to Baton Pass Wish to heal other Pokemon has become an incredible asset, and its Water-typing is just oh-so-nice right now. Magnezone's guaranteed kill on Skarmory by its Steel-trapping ability propels it to standard use. Lastly, what I thought was a janky surprise stupid idea of a Choice Scarf Machamp turns out to be an idea worthy of standard play.
These kinds of surprises are incredibly refreshing. There are a lot of Pokemon I thought that would turn out to be average all have a really cool role to play.

Tried playing Pokemon Battle Revolution over Wifi. It's... sigh. Functionally, it's not bad, except searching for opponents randomly means a 3 on 3 fight, rather than full teams. Still, it's kind of fun playing it on Wii against live opponents because of the visuals of the attacks, which were done nicely on the game.
The problem with this game is that you either use Rental Passes (which are a set of pokemon given to you, and you trade after beating other in-game trainers for better Pokes), or you use a Custom Pass, which is done by copying all your Pokemon from the DS, a process much like synching your iPod to your iTunes app on your computer.
What this means is that random opponents online come in two forms: People with crappy Rental Passes, or people with Custom Passes full of Ubers.
I've had few truly good fights. My most recent went like this:
Opponent sends out Dialga. I send out Spiritomb.
Opponent uses Roar of Time. I survive, I Pain Split.
I switch in Garchomp on the recharge of Roar of Time.
I Sword Dance. Opponent Roar of Times. I survive by Focus Sash.
I Sword Dance AGAIN. Opponent recharges.
I Earthquake. Dialga Dies.
Opponent sends in Palkia.
I somehow outspeed Palkia and one shot it with Dragon Claw.
Opponent sends out Giratina.
I definitely outspeed it and one shot with Dragon Claw.
I win.
It's kind of sad.

Jon, would you be insane enough to start breeding a few Pokemon to try and start a joint trade thread with me on Smogon?

Um, depends on how insane and what we're trading for. Not really sure how much help I'll be though given my luck with IVs.

Err, somewhat insane.. maybe 25ish in all the IV's that sorta matter, and a flawless or two in the ones that are absolutely important. Like if we had:
Jolly Gible 25/31/26/3/20/31
That would be acceptable, even with the Sp. Def stat at 20, but the Atk and Spd are 31.
I've been doing some thinking on how to jump start this. I may try to do some breeding projects for some others at Smogon so I can get some good parent Pokemon, and then we can use those to create an army. That seems to be how quite a few people get their start now.
The Pokes we offer don't need to be OU tier either... like, if one of the many Eevees you bred might be a good Flareon, that would work. Yes, Flareon.
But yeah, it's a bit of a time sink, with some good payoff, though. Just wanted to propose the idea to see if you had that amount of time. Or patience. Or stupidity. ;D

www.shoddybattle.comPokemon simulator, probably the best one around because you can find some sort of competition. No need to breed, everything is there. Very ideal, and the mind games in Pokemon are very delightful. Since we (me + Jon) had a brief talk about this: I had a problem picking Special tanks as well, since they can conflict easily with other shit on my team. There are some choices I go to because they're easier to use. 1. Bronzong - My automatic go to Pokemon for necessary defense. This Pokemon is incredibly stupid amounts of support lent to a team. Bronzong @ Leftovers Sassy 252 hp/128 atk/128 SpD -Hypnosis -Stealth Rock -Gyro Ball -Explosion It's incredibly Overused, but it really is bullshit great support. No heals outside of Rest/Sleep Talk, unfortunately. I still like it tons because there's so many Pokes who can't do shit to it, and it's good for sponging hits. Good starter Poke that has value all the way till the end. The ideal play for this is to start against something that doesn't do well against Bronzong, Hypnosis the switch, Stealth Rock on the sleep or second switch (Other RestTalkers do so little to him). Gyro Ball is there for hitting fast things that think they can set up without paying some life, and Explosion is just rude after you're done sleeping something and setting up Rocks. 2. Spiritomb is another option. He's there to cause a Pokemon or two some misery, and die. There are a ton of sets for him, though, and I tend to do something like this: Spiritomb @ Leftovers Careful 252 hp/140 atk/116 SpD -Pain Split -Will o' Wisp -Sucker Punch -Pursuit/Hypnosis/Taunt This was the set that can absorb Specsmence Draco Meteor, pain split it off, and wall the fag. It is, unfortunately, setup fodder in certain situations, which is why Taunt and Hypnosis are there as options. Spiritomb is fun to play, but has its pitfalls to beware of. I'll just list these for now, because I have used these two the most. The other obvious ones to think about are Milotic, Vaporeon, Suicune, Snorlax, Cresselia and of course, Blissey... but I'm gonna assume you want non-Blissey for a while. I'm not a fan of Blissey not because she's not good, but there's so much Lucario and Infernape that I hesitate a bit. It also makes Snorlax a less appealing choice because Close Combat owns his sumo ass. The ones that are a little more uncommon, and possibly more appealing to play with casually, are Registeel, and Uxie. Uxie is underrated, but more or less a worse Cresselia because it has even less offensive ability. It's a great support Poke, though. Right now, I play a Registeel currently with mixed EV's to take hits from both ends of the spectrum, with Earthquake, Counter, Ice Punch, and Explosion. It's a hilarious moveset to dick with, and people always play as if Registeel is easy to take down. Otherwise, you can try Jirachi and Celebi with EV's leaning toward Special Defense, Dusknoir (which I'm not a fan of, even if it can work), or Grumpig... just to be really "special". Tentacruel supposedly works as well, but I have little experience with water specital tanks outside of Milotic, since my offensive options tend to share weaknesses with the waters (Gyara, random fast fliers, ground types, etc.) No matter what you pick, though, just make sure they're there to last a few hits, do something disruptive, and die. Resistances, imo, are more important than sheer stat size, even when it comes to Blissey, because the current meta is filled with danger.

Pokemon Platinum coming out on Sept.13 in Japan. It's still set in Sinnoh, but has tons more content, so it's akin to what Emerald was like.
Giratina gets a new form, as well as Shaymin. Giratina's new form gets Levitate. Shaymin's new form emphasizes Speed, Special Attack, and has the ability Serene Grace. Btw, it learns AIR SLASH. Uber Togekiss, here we come.
