So I was talking to Craig about this last night,
With all the games we play now, between mech warrior and junk I was thinking we could get our own vent server.
For WoW, mechwarrior, starcraft, ect ect for when we arent lanning, or simply for when we're online and bored and wondering what the others are doing.
10 man is 60 bucks 15 person servers are 84 bucks a year, 25 is 132 a year
Basically secure server with specific logins for each person and each person pays their share of the server - the more people we get to chip in the cheaper it is for everyone.
10 man being basically 6-10 bucks per person for a years worth of usage. I was thinking maybe a 25 man server split between 10 people for random raids and crap for sanity sake - still costs 13 bucks for a full year of use.
Thoughts? So far me and craig are up for it. For so little money seems worth it for the versatility in communication for all of us while gaming.

It sounds like an interesting idea, but how often are we really going to be using it? I guess that I'd be willing to pitch in if everyone else is, but aside from WoW I don't see how useful it is going to be since we don't seem to play any other online game when we're not lanning.

I agree, and for those who play WoW, you guys aren't even all on at the same time of day. It's a good idea, but we're all just living in the wrong context for this to be used often enough. It'd be fairly gay to get it set up, and then just watch us all not log on because there's hardly anyone to talk to, and then turn us off to the idea for good. I'd much rather see this idea saved for a better time.
That said, playing Mechwarrior with ventrilo on, even with a LAN, is too fucking cool.

Yup, it sounds like a good idea, but I don't know how much we'd actually use it. I think if we ever start playing stuff like Mechwarrior online against people we'd need something like vent to really make it work, but at the same time we did have a teamspeak server previously that we kinda used, but ended up just sitting around idle a lot cause I don't think any of us will really just sit around on the vent server on any given afternoon waiting for other people to log on.
With that all being said, I'd be willing to pitch in, but ideas where we'd really want to use it, realistically?

Too lazy to log in on my other comp - but anyhow
The other problem is that WoW is getting vent introdocued into the game interface next patch.
For group and for designated chat channels (ala uberpwn).
My partial thought is even if we use it once or twice in a year for Mechwarrior, it seems somewhat worth it - but yea
may as well wait to see how much/little we do this sorta thing come school starting for me and brian and go from there.
