xkcd.com/851/XKCD has a knack for coming up with random stuff that you'd never have thought of, while managing to make incredible sense.

I know this is part 3 of the let's play, but it illustrates the point I was going to make much better than the previous two. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tLRI5OdJL0Magicka - an interesting and innovative diablo-esque game with a nifty magic system, 4-player multiplayer, and more than a few bugs. $10 on steam. We will never play this game together, because of this key fact: team damage is on, and very easy to achieve. skip to 16:50 in the movie to get what I mean. These guys dance the line between incompetent and actively blowing eachother up, so I think that this is a lesser scale of what would happen with us at the controls. Coupled with the magic combo system where you combine elements to make new spells, I fear what would happen in a game with both Josh and Brian playing. EDIT: If you're particularly bored, here's a whole episode of failure: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWcrv0Bg4tQ

Jon and I bought Magicka actually...it has so many bugs that it's actually aggravating to play after a while. The game itself is amusing, but in the end there aren't really choices in the spells you use because some spells are just way way way better than others. Simply put, you can "mix" elements when you're casting spells. But you can mix water + beam + lightning, where when x target is hit by water, they take 2x? or 3x damage from lighting attacks. So you can shoot a laser that does constant damage from full screen that does 2x damage. So it sounds like there's a really open ended spell list wher eyou can mix and match elements to fit the situation, but really you just end up casting the same old shit over and over again.
Friendy fire is rampant, and with only me and Jon playing it was pretty bad. What makes it worse is the fact that you're tethered to a single screen, which means you have to have some sort of coordination for which way to run so you don't get cornered and die messily. Also, for a PC game in this day and age, multiple players being tied to a single screen is really just unacceptable.
I personally think playing the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is better than Magicka for us.

Wow, Crystal Chronicles would be better? That game was hella destructive amongst ourselves.
