Hmm... So I tested piano'ing inputs for an ultra w/ Ryu (during a jump) and couldn't get the ultra to come out (always got a shoryuken bc I didn't have full meter)
EDIT: ...Wrong again. So if you piano the inputs just before you land, the ultra will come out. But if you piano too early, you get non ultra.

www.kineda.com/justin-wong-wins-sfiv-national-tournament-and-daigo-wins-international-title/Some videos from the Gamestop tourney finals are up. While Gamestop ran a dumb tourney overall, the finalists were able to use sticks, and Justin Wong took the whole thing. With Justin Wong declared as a national champion, we saw a repeat from Alpha 3: When Valle was declared national champion, he had to face Japan's best, which was Daigo. This time around, they also flew in Korea's national champion, Poongko, the current Japanese champion, Iyo, and Daigo, not because he won a tournament to get there, but just because of his very being. This results in a round robin set between the 4 players, and some truly insane SF4 being played. Watch these videos NOW. Tremble in fear at Japan's wrath as you watch Iyo and Daigo go at it... it's just awesome to watch. And yes, Daigo is very likely showing up at EVO.

Why does Honda's hundred hand slap require 6 punch inputs now? Its way harder for me to input that last punch. Also, it's pretty annoying that you can't effectively charge headbutt and move forward during hand slaps.

6 inputs makes sense. I gave up on trying to input 5 and have been mashing them. Honda is ghey.

www.youtube.com/user/LordAborigineSF4Channel where a guy posts a lot of SF4 stuff. He just put up a bunch of SBO Promotional videos for this year, all of them with Daigo, because he is revered as the Patron Saint of SF4 in Japan. However, I think Daigo is trying to convince us that SF4 is really GGXX, because of all the insane "gatling" combos he shows off with Ryu.

The entire Gods' Garden tournament was amazing... except for the American players.

I've been playing Sagat again, and reading on SRK forums while waiting for matches...a few surprising things about Sagat I didn't know.
st.mk is a really good poke? Apparently the priority is really good, though I still don't see why people like the move SO much, since its really really laggy on whiff (leaves me uncomfortable on hit too), doesn't do much damage on it's own and leads into NOTHING.
Sagat's c.fierce is apparently still CVS2-like. This move is still really good in terms of priority - it's just not stupid mash2win. And speaking of ridiculous links... you can link a deep c.fierce into c.jab, lolol, and not surprisingly leads into all the common c.jab, TU, ultra shit. It's actually really good against boxer, its probably his best footsies move if you don't want to fireball up in the funny range where boxer walks in/out of sweep range.
CH c.fierce also links into Tiger Uppercut. HAHAHHAHA
Actually I didn't realize how much faster the f.rh kara cancel is (over the f.lk kara). This cancel is...really good, though the input window is considerably smaller (cause it seems like an easy kara, in terms of old games. Not this new SF4 I have 5 years to input the kara shit)
c.mp links to c.jab on hit? wtf Sagat != guile/ryu. (guile can't even link c.mp into c.jab anymore; hell c.jab to c.mp is a 1 frame link = bullshit.)
I didn't know cross up Tiger Knee worked on so many characters out of the corner. Works on most non-shoto characters. And I also didn't know you could link an ultra/super after it, out of corner, WTF.
Tiger Knee leaves people in a funny juggleable state. Apparently you can (if you hit them into the corner) connect an EX high tiger after it. It might just be it leaves you in a juggleable state, but you're too close to the ground so nothing is fast enough to connect after a regular mid screen tiger knee.
Ryu's c.mk lowers his hitbox more than I thought. It goes under tiger knee (wtf) and recovers in time to punish TK on recovery.
I've been giving buffalo headbutt way too much credit. It's start up is WTF slow. I think 8? frames is the fastest start up (on jab headbutt), EX and fierce headbutt are 11? frames or so. So actually its 100% safe to meaty boxer on wakeup with certain moves, c.lk for Sagat.
I also didn't realize, because I didn't know anything about Blanka, that only his straight blanka ball armor breaks. I was under the impression the rainbow ball had armor break too.
Electricity beats cross-ups, Sagat's at least. (pretty sure Ryu's loses too.)
Apparently you can sometimes link a f.rh after a non-CH tiger uppercut after FADC'ing backwards.
American players are still obsessed with retarded 100% meter and ultra combos that give you minimal returns over a regular fadc combo.
j.fierce is still really good. Beats a lot of stuff, surprisingly.
EDIT: EX tiger knee is really good. I never realized how safe it is on block, even deep (rofl -1 on block). And it travels hella far hella fast.
Why is it that body slash (zangief) beats Tiger uppercut clean on cross-up even when done really deep? no homo.
Btw. What's the best way to deal with the Zangief cross-up on wake up? Most of the time I think just blocking is best, though 360 leads into another cross-up, yeah? Granted, online is different than LAN. I'm more concerned with what to do in a LAN situation, rather than online. Otherwise I've been trying to:
-FA absorb the cross-up and dash forward. Though they have to be kinda late on the cross up for this to work? Haven't had a ton of success getting it to come out consistently on wake up (probably an online input issue). Though I'm more concerned that the c.lk will come out faster than my dash and I'll get combo'ed into lariat. -Reversal TU. Doesn't always beat the cross-up (body splash), from what I've tried and I have issues inputting between the cross-up and the following low attack (c.lk?) online. Typically I try to FADC backwards after I throw one out, regardless of whether or not I have ultra. -Block. Obviously. -Throw. This option sucks ass. -Dash back. I think this gets caught by the c.lk? or if not, probably the follow-up lariat (if they don't choose to 360).
=== Is there somewhere that lists which moves are considered airborne? Particularly involving how early in the move they're considered airborne. So... I'm not sure whether or not TU is considered airborne until the active frames, or if it's sometime during the start-up, or at start-up, etc. Similarly with Tiger knee, Ryu's EX hurricane kick, etc.

I've noticed that Sagat's s.mk and c.hp are still usable, but s.mk range bugs me, and c.hp isn't as fast as it used to be (or at least doesn't feel that way)
Yeah, Buffalo Headbutt is pretty crap against wakeup low shorts. As Rog you can mess with people's timing by being random with your quick recovery, but that only gets you so far.
There is virtually nothing that can cross-up Blanka. Electricity and up-ball will see to that.
Against crossups in general, it depends on their timing. After playing against strangers more often, I find that some people will like to do their crossups late, actually after the opponent wakes up because some people will twitch on the delay, which slows down their reaction to blocking to other direction. This doesn't work against wakeup happy people, but I've had some success with this using Bison.
The above point I relate to Zangief, because I see people do that. Crossup body splash is not terribly ambiguous if you do it meaty, so if it's really meaty, (homo) block it. The mind game is either:
1. Tick off the splash into 360. 2. Low tick into 360. 3. Clothesline jumps (also works after low ticks) 4. Hit confirm BnB.
If it's done a little late, then you can uppercut it, but I've had a lot of trouble with this because I sometimes end up uppercutting the wrong way, or I try to reverse the motion too soon and get Mexicans.
I don't like the FA option because some people just mash 360/720 too quickly, which is actually fine if you're in blockstun but not if you're throwing out the FA. I find this really frustrating because mistakes suddenly become a threat, and predicting someone's consistency is really hard. I have the luxury of headbutting away from the crossup or teleporting out of the situation though, so my tendency is just to avoid Gief as much as I can, especially online.
Backdash can get caught by lariat/green hand, especially if you're really close to Gief. That and sometimes backdashes aren't fast enough to escape a 360, or the timing is tight.
Lastly, for the airborne moves... I think it's all situational. They're not really predictable by looks, and no one has really bothered to compile this list. A few examples:
1. Ryu EX Hurricane can be crouched and then hit by any low hit, even if his foot is off the ground. On the other hand, if this happens, he's in air reel for a moment.
2. Bison is mostly immune to low hits on Scissors, EX or otherwise, but can be thrown out of startup. Psycho Crusher is the same.
3. TU has to be grounded on some active frames or you can't FADC the hit. A similar way to tell is to use the Bison example: he can FADC a Psycho Crusher. Graphics just lie, unfortunately, so this can make it really hard to discern.

Not cool. It doesn't matter for us here in the States, or anywhere else in the world, frankly, but that's really fucked for Japan. Granted, they have a big enough scene where they can isolate themselves and play regular SF4, but... enh..
