I agree entirely. Topping the utter violence of 2008, I thought, was impossible. Fortunately, I was wrong, and the hotel batsu has reached a whole new level of fucking with people.

shoryuken.com/content.php?r=153-Wakeup-Shoryuken-Episode-006-Featuring-BuktoothYou can probably tell what the link is by the URL. Although this might fit better in the fighters section, I figured it'd get a little more attention here. Shoryuken.com has been doing some useful podcasts in an effort to reach out to newer players in a constructive way. This one, featuring Buktooth, is mostly chit-chat about background information about the fighting game scene. However, I'd encourage everyone to just listen in around the 20ish minute mark. They have a good discussion about character selection, which isn't new and revolutionary information, but is just good shit to keep in mind. The rest of the interview is still good. I think if any of us are still interested in continued improvement in fighters, Buk does talk a lot about honest self-assessment throughout the podcast, which at the very least is entertaining - and at best, very enlightening.

Funny enough, this just reinforces my previous thoughts about why I like both fighters and RTS games so much. The way Buk talks about improving is the same as what you're supposed to do for Starcraft. Nothing new for me, but still interesting to listen to.

Yeah, my thoughts were along the same line, though I believe it to be true of anything a person wants to get good at, especially competitively. At the very least, it's nice to hear someone else say it every now and then.
I still think it's hilarious how he maintains that he spazzes with N-Groove in CvS2.

shoryuken.com/content.php?r=250-Yagami-From-Shoryuken-Interviews-Uryo-and-TKDKinda interesting interview with TKD and Uryo, the best Fuerte and Viper players, respectively, in Japan (and hence, the world). Some American player went to Japan and got to sit down with the two players, and had Kuni (legendary ST Gief player, and big-time liaison between Japan and US) translate. The questions are a bit basic, and anyone spending enough time with fighters can kinda predict how the players will answer questions. Still, there are some humorous moments, especially late in the interview, after TKD and Uryo have had some beer in their systems. The info is a little dated, since it was done right before SBO 2009, but I think the interview is worth watching. Addendum - sonichurricane.com/?page_id=1702Really good resource in the above link about footsies. Not the homo kind, but the Street Fighter type. This was written by Majestros, a Socal player known for having lots of technical information and good practice buddies. I can't stress how glad I am to see an article like this, because no one has really intelligently written a series like this since the Dominator articles by S-kill back in the early portion of the 2000's. With the web explosion of information and videos, players have access to SO much now that no one has really condensed the basics. This is very different from the old-school struggle of having limited info, dealing with inconsistent frames (SF2), and having to form more philosophical strategies instead of relying on hard data. I'd be one of the last people to hate on data, but everything on forums now goes like this: Dude: I get beat by X move, wtf do I do? Bloke: Mash Y because it's a high priority move. Man: Is it possible to punish A? Guy: Yes, use B super or EX C. Scrub: Sagat is too good. WTF? Intermediate player: Dodge his fireballs, block FADC uppercuts, tech his throws, do this damaging combo. The problem that I see is that everyone wants specific information, while general gameplay is getting ignored. Majestros is taking a very big, universal concept, and putting it back into the player base's consciousness, and that is a good thing for all, whether you're experienced or not.

You know. It's really funny how you stop thinking about footsies in general when you play Sagat in SF4 =P. Like srsly, who need footsies when you have tiger knee and normals w/ retarded priority. I've been playing Ryu again in SF4 (few days ago), and I've actually been thinking almost exclusively about footsies (mostly because I played at least 50% of my games as a mirror matchup against Ryu). Though, more than just thinking about trying to improve my footsies game (which has never been that good), I've just been reminded time and again to not play mind games with those who just mindlessly mash/do whatever they want regardless of situations. Though in a way it's a good way to practice basic footsies and zoning if you don't have to worry about a lot of mind games and mix ups.
From the footsies articles...I really like chapter 5, do not jump. But I like even more the example he used in chapter 6, "press some buttons, Cole."

Well, a draft for the movie is a long ways away from actual production. The worst thing about the drafting process is that is where the movie can get butchered. And I agree: I would be unsure how GITS works as a live action, unless there's some James Cameron level budget.
Matt Damon for Togusa. Lawl.

kotaku.com/5499697/nintendo-announces-new-hardware-the-nintendo-3dsNow I know there's precedence for doubting Nintendo gadgets for a variety of reasons, but aside from Virtual Boy, Nintendo's portable gaming systems in the recent decade have been very good. Coming off the insane success of the Wii and DS, both of which were torn apart from skeptics, I'm not ready to damn this new announcement yet. I have to admit some bias, of course, because I love the DS, and the idea of a BETTER DS is exciting. Unlike the Wii, developers have done a superior job using the DS features to make their games fun, so I hope this trend continues for some good times.

insomnia.ac/commentary/arcade_culture/Read it, understand it. Don't fight or argue against this guy - it's one of the most bitter articles I've read in a while - but if you understand where he's coming from, you will level up as a gamer.
