Ezrael + Ashe + Lux? Lololol. Arrow, Beam, Wave?
I bought Malphite last night. He is fairly silly, but really has to keep up in levels. I was lanning against Irelia and Garen, and would run out of mana before I can do any significant damage.
Was partially lack of mana items.
Does Malphite fullfill our tank needs?

I'll disagree that Ashe has to be played mid. She is a very strong mid and you should probably give her a solo lane over 80% of the cast, but it isn't a requirement for success. This choice also heavily depends on what your team comp is. So for us right now, Ashe usually takes mid since we don't have another strong solo lane character. If we had a good Vlad I'd probably give him mid over Ashe.
Adding to your list I'd suggest Karthus, Kennen, and Miss Fortune. All expensive, good, and dumb damage characters. Also fitting your criteria is Gragas. He's a fucking dumbass and very very dirty. He's also quite good if you can skill shot properly.
My initial though is that Malphite doesn't bring enough to fill the tank role by himself, but I haven't played with/against/read enough to come to any real conclusion. I know that he is a bitch to lane against in the early game but I'm not sure how much he can contribute late game during team fights. His ult is a good initiator, but after that he has no real good cc, just a slow and some damage skills. His other skills looks promising with their short cool downs but I'm not sure if he can output enough damage to be a big enough threat/distraction.
Either way for now he'd fill our missing damage soak nicely. I'm probably underrating him but those are just my initial thoughts. I can see the potential but I'm not sure if his presence is enough to draw fire away from the rest of the group. I guess you could try building him damage to make him a bigger threat but I'm not sure if this is a good idea or not.
On the subject of not doing enough damage, I can't really comment since I wasn't watching. Early game you probably won't get kills just because you don't have the burst/cc unless someone is hella overextending and just asking to get ganked. If you're going 1v2 then you probably won't get kills at all unless you overextend yourself (nh).
Early game your main goal is to farm xp/money while denying your opponent the same. This means that you want to harass them within reason. Your main goal is to get them to back off to deny xp/gold. If you can force them to base then that is almost just as good as killing them. The time it takes to go back and forth is xp/gold they're not getting thus granting your team the advantage.
For this reason you want to focus only on last hitting creeps. You want to avoid pushing the creep line towards the enemy tower so you can more easily deny them last hits. Pushing the enemy tower too early is an invitation to get ganked by a jungler. Try to avoid spamming skills at every opportunity. You want to try and keep maybe half mana depending on your champion so you can toss out a full skill combo in case your opponent does something stupid.
Early game you can toss out a few pokes to get it in their head that every time you walk forward you might be trying to deal damage. This usually works better as a range champ. Auto attacking early game has the same effect as using a skill, instilling fear. This will force them to think about what you're trying to do every time you walk forward. This is another reason why you don't want to spam skills at every opportunity. Early you are (usually) not getting a kill out of it so you want the ability to bluff your opponent into thinking that you will hurt them. As Malphite you can abuse this since the fear of getting hit is usually enough to make people back off. Your passive allows you to take and ignore a certain amount of harass yourself. Use this to walk in, last hit a minion, then leave. Occasionally when you have a surplus of mana (or they're being dumb) you can walk up and Q/E them. Make sure you have your passive up to absorb minion damage and any potential retaliation.
Once you hit level 6 you can actually think about ganking them. The stun from your ult is a great surprise move and a full skill combo should do maybe half(?) damage to them. Until then just farm up xp/gold.

According to your criteria. You should play Garen. He's a fucking dumbass and he is obviously dirty. Edit - This post was directed at Josh, if the quote isn't any indication. xD lololololololol. Agreed. While I'm loath to encourage someone else among my regular teammates to play him, since he's pretty much going to be my main at this point, I still have to give credit where it's due, and suggest that if you want to be dumb and dirty, Garen is a good pick for that. Dumb: - Most Garen builds emphasize his innate health regen. Getting hurt a lot? Back off for a bit and literally watch his health restore itself, no need to recall. Force of Nature and Randuin's Omen are your friends. Still getting hurt? Use Courage to absorb hits.
- Sunfire Cape + Randuin's Omen = Enemy champ hits you then goes "Wait, why am I dying so fa- WAIT WHY CAN'T I RUN OH GOD WHY?!"
- Go for boots of swiftness 9 times out of 10, because Judgment can easily replace Mercury's Treads with it's snare removal and duration reduction on slow abilities. Get treads only if their entire team is snare based, otherwise more movement = win.
- Garen is all cooldown based. Not even Energy (like Shen) or health (like Mord) - just cooldowns. Cooldown reduction is fun, though not necessary.
Dirty: - Demacian Justice = Surprise Sex (yes homo). You can usually get the kill at around 10% health, but generally low health justice hits will ensure an enemy champ's death one way or another. Also fun if you like to spite your teammates and kill steal, but the CD is long enough that it might be a bad idea to use it on a champ already guaranteed to die.
- Decisive Strike grants a movement bonus until you hit with it, so activate it then hit Judgment (Whirlwind) to invade your opponent's personal space and stay there long time (yes homo).
- Descisive Strike Silences, interrupting ongoing spells, and keeps people from activating non-summoner spells that might otherwise save their lives.
So yeah, you might like Garen, despite him being a melee champion. If you've even looked at him in the LoL champions list you've likely already figured this shit out for yourself, but I feel I can't stress this stuff enough. I definitely recommend Garen for anyone who wants to play dirty and cheap. Anyways, as far as useful recommendations go, I might suggest the following champions: - Viegar - If you like being an anti-caster spellcaster, his ult deals damage based on his opponent's Ability Power.
- Ryze - He's the classic blaster caster, complete with AP buff, root and burst DPS.
- LeBlanc - Every time I've faced her she's been a complete bitch to deal with, but admittedly I don't know as much about her abilities as I really should. All I know is her ability to harass without penalty is damn good.
- Twitch - You really need to be cautious about vision wards, but otherwise Twitch is super-fucking-annoying and lethal. Fucking
Skaven Rat People.
- Kog'Maw - OMG DPS. I know he's already been recommended, and you've already noted your interest in getting him, but having a regular Kog'Maw on our team wouldn't hurt.
Again, these are my recommendations based on my experience in the game and my presumptions about your play style.

As far as my own champion picks are concerned...
I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations on Jungling characters. Warwick is the obvious one, but most people will see him and immediately know you're jungling. If we ever go so advanced to want to have a jungler in the group, does anyone have any champion recommendations?
As for other champions in general, I've been meaning to try out Katarina, Blitzcrank, Pantheon and Galio, as well as give Akali and Sivir another shot. Thanks to Brian's perfomance the other weekend, I'd also like to take a look at Xin Zhao, but I'd sooner let Brian play him, since he already knows how to play him.
Generally speaking, I like playing the second carry. I've played mid a fair number of times (thanks to having Ashe as my main for a while), though I doubt I'm especially good at it. Most of the characters I play are Attack Damage or Attack Speed based, with one being armor/health regen based (lol Garen). If you have any recommendations based on those criteria, I'm willing to listen.
PS on my above post - Josh, you might also want to try Dr. Mundo. That fag is nigh unkillable late game, and very harassing early game.

Mundo is a top tier champ in 3v3, less so in 5v5 because of ignite. 2 ignites shuts down his health regen and without that he's a pretty easy gank. Less of an issue in 3's because your ganking all the time and ignite can't be up all the time. 5's has more of a lull period between ganks for cooldowns to recharge.
A lot of jungle characters usually turn out to be tanks because that's one of the only ways for them to get xp/gold. Tanks are usually easily harassed in lane and have difficulty last hitting. Amummu, Nunu, Shaco, Irelia, Rammus, Shen, Trundle (New champ), Olaf, and Udyr are some good jungle characters.
As for suggestions, you might want to look at Sion, Olaf, Udyr, Tristana (free w/ facebook like), Irelia, and Nidalee. Sion has good damage with an on demand stun. Olaf is a cc immune damage dealer. Udyr a mixed bag of damage and survivability depending on how you build/play him. Tristana is ranged dps dumbness. Irelia is another melee champ with builtin cc resist and some true damage options. Nidalee is a hybrid dps support depending on which form she is in.
Of the ones you listed I'd probably suggest going for Pantheon, Akali, Blitzcrank, Sivir, and Xin Zhao first. Pantheon is amazing with his global ult. He just requires good team support. Akali is stupid damage and superior to Katarina in almost every way atm. Blitz is good if you can land his grab. Garbage if you can't. Blitz sadly loses some effectiveness as the game drags on because of Banshee's veil. Sivir is more of a support dps but she is great at what she does, pushing lanes. Spell shield is also very annoying to deal with and gives her a good survivability tool. Xin Zhao is solid, but has issues with living after he charges in.
I want to like Katarina, but right now she just doesn't have the damage to justify a slot on a real team. I like her overall style but the payoff just isn't there. Her only real damage is her ult which sucks. Slow channel aoe that can only hit 3 targets max is horrible. Pick her up if you want but I'm hoping for a remake. Currently she is a decent ganker but not that great in a team fight. Akali beats her in almost every way.
I'd suggest Galio, but he's recently been on the receiving end of some pretty harsh nerfs. With the latest patch he lost a lot of his damage. He's still good for the aoe taunt and pokes but the huge payoff just isn't there anymore.

At competitive play levels the enemy will assume someone is jungling, I think you basically always do it. So the presence of WW doesn't mean much. They will know who is missing at the minions clashing time period anyways. It's really only in pug's that you get no one jungling.
Nunu is another option and very cheap.
Fair warning about jungling, I've been practicing a lot on that and focusing to do it with timed custom game runs for practice. We may overlap and clash if you end up going jungling as well.

Today's patch basically nerfed most of our characters. WW got a buff. New character seems interesting, at least with a ton of staying power (heals whenever anything nearby him dies as % of their hp).

Fyi. I unlocked Xin Zhao literally 5 minutes before we played that 3v3. Kekekeke.
Xin Zhao and Pantheon play pretty similarly, overall. Both good dps, but pretty squishy overall. The nerf to Pantheon's spear shot will definitely hurt a lot, but I think overall Pantheon got his late game damage upgraded and early/midgame damage reduced. Which frankly, sucks for Pantheon.
Vlad needs more nerfs. Wtf.
Jungling characters...Xin Zhao can kinda jungle. Irelia jungles pretty damn well, can solo baron relatively easily and still do alright in group fights. Rammus, nunu are also good ones that aren't terrible in team fights. Shen is also good. Sion is good, not sure if he jungles well? Fiddlesticks jungles well, but he squishes like a little bitch.
Characters I'm going to go for next include: -Kayle -Irelia -Rammus -Jax -Cho'Gath

Played with jon (nh), malphite is rofl stomp. One game we got wrecked sadly (level 13 with enemy at 17 to 18). Enemy akali and karthas got 20+ kill/assists with deaths evenly spread across the team.

More FYI for Brian than anyone: Justin is playing. His name is "Feesting". We need a "Deepah".
Used RP to get Vladimir. What a douche he still is.

Bought Kayle for giggles with IP. Just gonna start grabbing low IP characters and build up. Ashe and Soraka probably next.

Grabbed Miss Fortune the other day. She's a dirty whore. Hopefully they don't nerf her too badly next patch. Planning on grabbing Akali next, but I just hit 20 so all my IP is going towards runes atm.

So, I've made a 'main' alt (will probably be making more alts for friend referral purposes), and he will be Deepah for Clan Ugandan Priest.
On another note, I purchased Kayle, and got Tristana from facebook. Yay.

What are people's thoughts on Kassadin?
He seems powerful on paper, but it feels like his spell damage peters off towards the end-game (Tried a couple solo games with AP builds). Probably going to try a melee build on him tonight.
Janna is funny. Considering between her and Sona for my token support character. I think I like Sona's Aura twisting more and I'm a terrible shot with Janna's Whirlwind (pathetic, right?), but to be fair, I only played one game with her, so lining up fully charged shots wasn't something I was used to (more used to Ashe's instant gratification face fuck arrow).
Also need to try Trundle, and give Shen yet another shot. Shen's concept is so awesome, and yet I never seem to do well with him... oh well. Maybe with a proper team...

Bought Cassiopeia. laning with a Singed or Teemo makes her hilarious if anyone gets hit by any poison. Really advance play with her is hard, but she seems pretty mean in general.
Basically if you get someone thats poisoned she can rip them apart (from her or anyone else). Toss in some sort of run speed CC they will die or instantly have to B
